Since 2008, St Matthew Catholic School has adopted a “dual-language” model, teaching students in both Spanish and English beginning with Kindergarten.
Two years ago, it joined a national consortium under the sponsorship of Boston College making it possible for the school to access the resources of the Roche Center for Catholic Education at the Lynch School of Education at Boston College.
For the last three summers the leadership of the school has traveled to Massachusetts for a week of intensive training in dual-language instruction.
In 2015-2016 the school is looking forward to expanding instruction in math in Spanish to the 5th grade as well as adding Spanish language arts to their school day. Our 6th graders are also going to be receiving a period of instruction in Spanish four days a week from a teacher trained and certified in Mexico.
